DIY Shallow Water Anchors Make Your Own Shallow Water Anchor
Music Hey, this is Chad Ferguson, learntocatchcatfish. I'm going to show you today a shallow water anchor that I built. There's a number of different companies that manufacture these. I've always wanted some. I've been using PVC pipes and rebar and fence posts and a number of other things over the years, and I never was real happy with them. So I decided I was going to hunt down some materials to build these on my own. This is a 34 inch pipe fiberglass rod. All I've done here is taken a PVC.
Thandle and epoxied it here on the end, put me a piece of rope around it, and put some rubber grip on it so it'd be easier to hold and get a good grip on when I was pulling it in and out of the water. What you use these for is anchoring out on shallow mud flats or in shallow water. This one is 8 foot long. If I get to a situation where I would need anything more than that, then I would certainly just use an achor, because I wouldn't want to use these in water.
That was much deeper than 4 or 5 feet at the most. What you do is you stick these down in the ground. I was going to build some brackets to hold these to mount on my boat, but then about a week ago I got to messing with them after I built them and I realized that these rod holders, if they're turned outside, will hold them. So I'm going to keep using these for right now and if I decide I want to actually build a bracket then I'll come back and show you what I did there later on.
But all you have to do to use these is just take them and jam them down in the ground real good, and they'll hold your boat in the wind. I've got one for the front and one for the back. Between the two I've been using them for a week now with no issues at all. I have used the commercially manufactured models and I can't say honestly that those work any better than these have. I've been real happy with them so far. No complaints at all whatsoever and it.

DIY PVC CanoeKayak Cart
I have a canoe and sometimes I like to use it solo but it's kind of a pain in the but to move it around by myself. So I build this cart and I'm going to show you how I did it. I found other designs online for canoekayak carts but they didn't quite fit my needs. I came up with design that allows you to carry a canoe or kayak right side up but it also has these extra wings on the side which will allow you to carry a kayak.
Upside down. The cart is made from 1 inch diameter PVC. These top supports are 14 inches long. These upper supports are 12 inches across. The side wings are each 9 inches. The upper section is 7 inches from the bottom section. The handle is just the portion of PVC left over from the 10 foot section I bought. It's about 14 inches. The axle is a 58 inch threaded rod that goes through an end cap with a 58 inch hole drilled in it. There is a 58 inch flat washer.
To prevent the wheel from digging into the PVC. The wheels are 10 inch wheels. They are rated at 300 lbs each which is way overkill for this project but they were dirt cheap $4 at Harbor Frieght. The wheels are held on to the end by 58 inch nylon insert lock nuts. The axle was a 2 foot section that I had to cut off a couple inches of the end. The foam on the supports is just PVC pipe insulation. Some people use pool noodles but in this insulation was actually cheaper.
And it fits the pipe perfectly. I really like the way the cart turned out. It makes it a breeze to move the canoe around by myself. It also makes it super easy to load the canoe on top of the car. If you decide to build one of these I'd love to see a photo of tutorial of it in action. I hope you found the tutorial helpful if you did give it a thumbs up. You can also subscribe to keep up to date with my newest tutorials. Thanks for watching!.
How to build a DOCK BOX
Those of us who spend a lot of time at the dock know how much stuff can accumulate down here over the course of the day you know what I hate picking up after my dock side guests time and time again besides where am I going to put this wet stuff well today we're gonna work on a storage solution called a dock box to solve this problem found these plans for a dock storage box in Canadian home workshop magazine it's a pretty straightforward project I've got a couple of scraps of three quarter inch ply.
That we're going to use for the ends First we're going to rip them to width and then we're going to basket bottom profile plans call for a centre eight inches from the top of the basket and we want a six inch radius or other words half the basket width Clamp these together and cut them out with my jigsaw I'm going to give them a quick sanding just to tidy them up So, here we are we got a couple finished slats.these come out of five quarters by six cedar.
Really don't have to but it looks a lot better if you do some treatment to the edge alright ready for assembly I got my basket ends and my basket is upside down obviously We've got the basket finished time to do the legs plans call for two and a quarter by two and a quarter legs So, I'm going to have to rip this four by four cedar to that dimension So, I need four at seventeen These are going to be positioned like this.at both ends Here we go! Done and done!.
Now we're on to the lid! I'm gonna glue five together, good quality outdoor wood glue notice that bead dead centre that's because I know what I'm doing I'm a trained professional I've left these long because I'll cut it to length after it dries Now the worst part of this of course is that you have to wait for the glue to set.and that's going to take the good part of an hour so What am I going to do in the meantime Alright glue is set I'm just going to take the mark clamps off.
Plans call for the lid to be seventy inches in length So I'll cross cut that to length We've prompted to use these nice decorative tee hinges and most importantly They're super easy to put on could be a little overkill but I'm gonna use number nine three inch deck screws Now the plans don't call for it but you can see I added a chain stay to prevent the kids or my soninlaw from ripping the hinges out Let's get this thing down to the dock Well this dockside box sure is a big improvement.
How to Build Upright Bookshelves How to Plan Sides for Upright Bookshelf
Hi! This is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this tutorial clip, we will be laying out our sides. If we take a look at the drawing of the materials that we did, our left and right side come out of the bottom corner of our 34 inch plywood sheet. So what we are going to first do is make cuts the entire length of our board and then we will come back and cut these off at the end. For our sides the measurement we need to look at,.
Are 6 feet for our height and 10 inches for our depth. So our board will be 10 inches wide by 6 feet long. Now although we have that 6 feet long and 10 inches long, we are going to be putting 34 inch trim on the front edge so that it will look like it is one big board so we need to subtract that giving us 6 feet long by 9 and 14 inch wide. Once we put that 34 inch trim on, then we will have a full 10 inches wide.
DIY How to Use Minn Kota Trolling Motors for Controlled Drifts BigWater Adventures Mark Davis
I'm going to show you something you may not have thought about using my Minn Kota. First I've got to plug it in. I love that lift assist. I'll show you something you may not have thought about. One of the things that I do pretty frequently is a controlled drift. You start talking about using a trolling motor to pinpoint your boat and put it in one place. One spot. I want to be right there, on that. Or I want to use it to go along the contours of the.
Bank. When you're in open water, you're often times at the mercy of the wind. We have no wind. What if I want to drift like I do particularly today I'm fishing for Stripers on my home lake today. Theres no wind. I need to drift. I use this trolling motor not the way you would thing. I want to show you something. If I turn this on and put it perfectly lined up with the boat, just like that. You come back here with me, I'll show you something. Now, let me hit my preset on my eleven ninety eight. Wow! We're on Stripers. But the point.
Is this. I can steer where I want to drift when I've got that trolling motor going straight, when my Minn Kota is pointed straight. Look back here at my motor. First off, I need to clean the water marks off of it. We all know that. If I turn this motor, I can actually make the boat. hold it right there and you watch. Behind that motor you're going to start seeing this boat with no wind, turning that direction. My point is this Think about using your trolling motor for a controlled drift. Okay What I mean by that is whether the wind is.
Blowing or not blowing, you can manipulate. because I use my eleven ninety eight for GPS all the time. And I'll set up a drift whether its across a point, a hump, a break, a channel, whatever it is, I'll use that Minn Kota nine times out of ten. Even if I want to drift sideways and the winds blowing too hard, what I'll do is I'll drop my trim tabs and I'll turn the motor all one direction, and I'll put the same direction. If the motors turned this way I'm going to turn the Minn Kota this way and it'll perfectly pull me sideways and.
I can control the drift on my GPS by how much I turn my engine. It'll actually make me drift faster, slower, it'll make me slide off to one side, slide off to this side. I can hit my GPS marks every time. If I'm bottom fishing and I don't want to anchor up, I'll do the same thing. I'll drift using my GPS over the spots and I'll make sure that my Minn Kota pinpoints me on that drift. If theres no wind whatsoever I'll put it on ten, between ten.
And twenty five depending on how fast I want to go. Ten will pull my boat at about one mile per hour which is perfect if I'm slow trolling live baits for Stripers. And I'm looking at my marks which are all humps, and my points, and my breaks, and everything I'm wanting to use. And I'm literally, just like if you have the motor running, you're using the motor itself. I use my Suzuki just like a rudder to steer the boat the direction that I want it to go because my Minn Kota is the same speed, the same amount of power, and.
Going in the exact same direction so I can literally drive my boat with my Minn Kota and control my drift. So don't always think about being up on the front deck hand tilling, going where you want it to go, trying to get up to the mark, staying on the mark. A lot of times you can set up up above it and use your GPS. If you miss it, once you figure out how your boat drifts, you can go back and start in the exact same position on my.
Eleven ninety eight and just manipulate my drift a little bit. A little more speed, a little less speed, a little more rudder, a little less rudder. You can hit that thing time after time after time and if you're on ground fish or if you're in an area where you're hitting a grass bed, whatever it is that you're doing and you have to be in that area and hit it every single time. I guarantee once you get it down its just as easy as anchoring up. Try it the next time you're out on the water.
